This summer our Head Wine Buyer, Andrew Baker, went to the Western Cape to search out the best wines of the new vintage. He came across this winery - tucked up the back of the pretty township of Franschhoek, up a winding dirt road which opens out to an extraordinary untamed mountain. Here at Wildeberg - or Wild Mountain - JD Rossouw creates unique wines. This one is made from old vine Fernao Pires grapes, a variety which was originally brought from Portugal decades ago to make brandy with. Very few plantings still remain, and these old vines are carefully cultivated in order to produce a white wine with amazing concentration of flavour, piercing acidity and mouth-watering fruit character.
