In the 1970s, the Marqués de Riscal winery in Rioja discovered that the local grape could make fresh, fruity white wines from the Rueda region, where this style of wine is now synonymous. It produces wines with medium acidity, and flavours of apple, pear and peach often with a herbal note and a slight bitterness on the finish.
