Champagne Gosset, based in Aÿ, is the oldest wine house in Champagne, founded in 1584. Since 1993 the business has been in the ownership of the Cointreau family with the enigmatic Béatrice Cointreau at the helm, but the house is still tiny in comparison to many of the better known brands, and the quality is superb. Gosset source most of their grapes from an established network of growers to ensure a consistent quality every year. Composed of 56% Chardonnay ‘grand crus' and of 44% pinot noir ‘grand and premier crus' this Grand Millésime is the entry-level vintage cuvée from Gosset. It has a gorgeous nose of ripe pears and green apples, with rich apricot and mango fruits on the palate, and a persistently long elegant finish. This is a brilliant Champagne.
