Normally innovations from the big players in Bordeaux are collaborations beyond the region - Provence, Portugal, South or North America etc but impressed by this little number from Maison Sichel Château Daviaud 2019.
"Recently bought by the Sichel family, the first new release is unoaked and, in response to climate change, has a healthy whack of Cabernet Franc (21%) and Malbec (15%) in the mix. An attractive nose of currants and cacao, red cherries, kicked up dry earth and a touch of pine resin is followed by a supple mouthful of small spicy red plums, dark chocolate, cedar. Succulent, bright, juicy, straightforward, with a bit of heft and mulberry spice from the Malbec, the Cab F giving a herbaceous border, alongside some mocha-flavoured tannins. Very drinkable now, will soften no doubt in a year or two but no reason not to get stuck in straight away despite its youth...." Tom Harrow, Wine Guru
