This is a treat; a silky, velvety, mellow treat. The Morrisons wine team have cleverly given this lovely Rioja sufficient time to slumber and grow up, before unveiling it, which means that it has hit the shelves at its best. With a beautiful damson colour, enticing aromas of berry fruits, sweet vanilla and toast waft out of the glass. Many Reserva Riojas are too oak dominated, but this one delivers, lovely, vibrant raspberry and mulberry fruit, mingled in with the traditional oak character, which, in this instance, has hints of toasted coconut, and sweet spice. Silkily smooth, with the attractive softness of maturity, this would be a great wine to partner with roast lamb, game casserole, chorizo and chicken stew, and also spicy roasted vegetable dishes.
