This summer our Head Wine Buyer, Andrew Baker, went to the Western Cape to search out the best wines of the new vintage. He came across this winery - tucked up the back of the pretty township of Franschhoek, up a winding dirt road which opens out to an extraordinary untamed mountain. Here at Wildeberg - or Wild Mountain - JD Rossouw creates unbelievably good wines. This is a cracking example of what Swartland has to offer. Well renowned for its Shiraz, the hot, dry climate here leads to lower yields of smaller, more-concentrated fruit. With careful handling at the winery JD creates a powerhouse of flavour!
