The top winery in the region and one of the most consistent in the whole country (its 'San Leonardo' wine, known by a number of critics as "the Sassicaia of the North", has been voted the best wine of Italy for two consecutive years).
The Terre is from the younger fruit and, Merlot-dominant, at the price compares favourably to a warm vintage Pomerol or Saint Emilion, full of spicy ripe plum and roasted herbs.
Drinking well now but a further 5 years cellaring will elicit even more satisfaction.
