It is great to see David King embracing other grape varieties as well as the stalwart classics of Australia. Tempranillo is normally associated with the top wines of Spain, but here in South Eastern Australia this grape offers us ripe cherry, liquorice and menthol notes that playfully mingle on the nose and skip over the palate. The acidity, thanks to a component of fruit from Victoria's cooler climate, acts as a nice counterpoint to the rich flavours, whilst the tannins are mellow and the flavours carry long into the finish.
