The 'SUPERIOR 10 ANOS' goes through a 6 month maceration before at least 10 years of aging, mostly in used, french, oak barrels. This time has given it a wonderful complexity of aromas and flavours. Luscious orange, florals and spices mix with sweet almonds and just a hint of rancio. The 160 g/L residual sugar requires balancing, and they've got this spot on!
You could have this with your pudding, or on its own before or after a meal.
"The NV Moscatel de Setúbal Superior "10 Anos" clocks in at 17% alcohol. It comes in at 180 grams per liter of residual sugar and 17% alcohol. This seems quite burly on first attack, showing dark flavors and brandy nuances in the fore, but some air and a little warmth does this some good. Reasonably concentrated for this level, it drinks very well, delivering complexity to the palate and fine fruit. More importantly, it shows reasonable concentration, avoiding the coarseness that some modestly priced bottlings show. This is pretty nice at the bargain level. Granted, it does not have the concentration of the older bottlings, but it shows very well for the level. Note: Although a non-vintage wine, this bottling of September 22, 2014 can be identified by the lot number "L000597" on the glass neck in tiny print. This comes with a bar-top cork." 89 pts, Mark Squires, WA
