We love hunting for epic wines all over the world and it's a great pleasure to see all the wonderful things happening in winemaking around the globe. We've tried to capture a small essence of that greatness in this New World Selection - three whites and three reds that are going to add a new dimension.
Cascadia Syrah Washington State, 2018: This dark concentrated Syrah possesses flavours of dark berry, clove and
white pepper, coating the palate with a plush round mouthfeel and leading to a silky-smooth finish.
Agostino Familia Malbec Blend, 2013: This outstanding blend is the result of the aromatic complexity of Malbec, the spices of Syrah, the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon and the personality of Petit Verdot. Its aging in French oak barrels enhances and balances this blend, making it a noble aged wine.
Varner Foxglove Zinfandel, 2016: "The 2016 Zinfandel is a fresh, fruity wine to drink now and over the next few years. Juicy black cherry, leather, spice, menthol and cedar add character to this exuberant, racy Zinfandel. This is an especially floral, mid-weight style." 88 pts, Antonio Galloni, Vinous.
Jordan The Real McCoy Riesling, 2018: The German clone grapes were vinified and once the perfect balance between sugar and acidity was reached, the fermentation was stopped to retain a hint of natural fruit sugars. Intense flavours of lime through to white peach and Granny Smith apple. A superb accompaniment to the lighter spectrum of Asian cuisine.
Payten and Jones Valley Vignerons Series Chardonnay, 2018: Aussie Chardonnay that tastes like Chardonnay! Picked early in the Yarra Valley, this stunning wine goes through malolactic fermentation, and is matured in 50% barriques and 50% stainless steel. It has a rich textural element and a freshness and acid line that is very refreshing.
Gundog Estate The Chase Semillon, 2015: The Chase Semillon is all about quality. This is a flagship wine that is designed to showcase the quality of the variety. The foundation of the 2019 blend are wines produced from blocks of old vine Semillon grown on lighter soils in the Somerset vineyard. These sites delivered beautifully balanced grapes, with fantastic purity of flavour. In the winery, double juice settling and racking was followed by cool fermentation. After four months on light lees, the wines were blended and gently fined prior to bottling.
