If you’re fed up with the overt, pungent flavours of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, but enjoy a more restrained style of this grape variety, head back to the grape’s original home, Sancerre, situated in the heart of France’s picturesque Loire valley. Tangy, vibrant and crisp, it’s mouth-tinglingly fresh, yet with a real depth of character, and a reined-in, taut elegance. With gooseberry, and granny smith apple character, it has concentration and real zing. The classic match to goats cheese, it’s also a great favourite with oysters, the freshest of seafood, and simply pan-fried plaice and river fish.
