Gary and Kathy Jordan have been making world-class wines at this top wine estate since 1993 on a farm with a history going back over 300 years. Together this husband and wife team is a phenomenon. Gary’s parents, Ted and Sheelagh, bought the 164 hectare Stellenbosch property in 1982, and embarked on an extensive replanting programme, specialising in classic varieties suited to the different soils and slopes.
The Jordan philosophy combines the vineyards’ natural assets with innovative management, creating a profound expression of terroir. Jordan Wine Estate – the perfect Synergy between Soul and Soil.
Named in memory of Inspector General of Vineyards by the Government of the Cape who lead the fight against phylloxera and the pioneer of entomology in South Africa. The oldest block on the estate carries the lower-yielding Montpellier clone and the smaller berries allow for great fruit concentration and generous flavours of white pear, quince and green pineapple. Barrel-fermented and matured sur lies for 8 months to highlight the varietal character of this magical grape.
After gentle pressing followed by cold-settling for 2 days, the juice was barrel-fermented in 228L second and third-fill Burgundian-shaped barrels, and matured sur lies in the barrel for 8 months with occasional barrel rolling to add richness to the palate. To accentuate the fresh citrus flavour, 50 % tank-fermented Chenin Blanc was blended with the barrel-fermented portion.
"The Jordan Inspector Péringuey Chenin Blanc, 2018 I’m sipping on in this evenings sun comes from Stellenbosch in South Africa. This has vibrant notes of pear, quince, lemon, honeydew melon, baked apple and a touch of butterscotch. It has been barrel fermented and matured sur lies (on its lees - dead yeast cells) for 8 months which imparts a lovely creamy richness and texture to the wine together along with a impressive finish. This is magnificent - a sophisticated summer quaffer." Angus, Wine Guru
