From eighty year old vines at elevation, and vinified 60% whole bunch.
Inky, deep yet crunchy blue fruits, “pinotised” (not sure what I meant by this but must have made sense at the time). Morello cherry and dry spices, then a whiff of smoky cedar. Intense yet supple, this shows the concentration and impressive structure of the vintage but also its freshness and tension. Nothing remotely nouveau about this.
It’s always a pleasure to see Jane – her wines are never less than extremely personable and engaging and 2019 is no exception. On arrival we learned that she had just received a second star from the RVF (equivalent of the Michelin Guide for wine) – which is justly deserved. Jane suggests her 19s are styled nearer to the bigger 18s than the lighter 17s but with higher acid levels and thus are potentially longer lived.

"Exclusively from 80-year-old vines, mass selection on the famous Labourons area high in Fleurie. Gamay in perfect condition, with 60% whole bunch, the vinification was followed by ageing in demi-muids (500 litres) for 10 months.
Pure and smooth with vibrant acidity. Very obviously Gamay raciness but with a very gentle texture and some persistence. This should drink well for quite a few years but is already charming." 16.5 pts, Jancis Robinson
