Intrigued by the prospect of matching Glen Garioch's rich hearty character with virgin American oak, the distillery laid down a small number of specially created casks. Made from inner heart wood of 100 year old trees, grown in the north American mountains, each barrel has been heavily charred inside to activate the woods vanilla spice in ready for the maturing spirit. Over time, the spirit interweaves with the virgin oak creating a rich tapestry of vanilla, caramelised wood sugars and oak spice: a velvet explosion of tast and texture. The result is a match made in heaven.
