Purple plum and black cherry fruit and fragrant cedar-wood character. Behind all this there is a sense of huge power and energy held in abeyance. In the mouth, it has the Lafite-like ethereal lightness noted last year, which turns into an almost unbelievably grippy concentration on the finish. With coaxing, it reveals amazing flavours of violet-tinged plummy fruit, black truffle and assorted spices. Slightly honeyed texture. Dramatic tension between the array of flavours, zingy acidity and palpable sense of minerality. Plenty of tannin, but so suave and silky as to render it almost unnoticeable. Wow. Amazing wine! About Glaetzer Amon-Ra Shiraz

Expert Reviews

Product reviewed: Glaetzer Amon-Ra Barossa Valley

Deep purple-black in color, the 2010 Amon-Ra is very closed on the nose showing pure black fruits, chocolate and licorice with just a touch of loam. Full-bodied and densely packed, the voluptuous palate is framed by firm, fine tannins and a crisp acid line. It has a long, well-balanced finish. Drink it from 2014-2026+. Rated 97/100

Red wines don't come much bigger than Glaetzer's Amon-Ra Shiraz. Tastes like liquefied blackforest cake with cedary, vanillin oak on top. It's as rich and voluptuous as that. It oozes aniseed and various exotic spices too. Needless to say, it's a full-bodied wine. Super-smooth in its texture and for all its might and power, it remains fresh, almost frisky. In short, this is a case of liquid seduction. Drink 2010- 2018. 96 Points.

Very deep purple-black in colour, the 2012 Amon Ra reveals intense notes of blackcurrant cordial, blackberry compote and liquorice with nuances of cloves, allspice, chocolate box and salami as well as a whiff of espresso. The 100% Shiraz palate offers a beast of a wine that is densely packed with black fruit and baking spice flavours and is supported with firm, grainy tannins and crisp acid through to a finish with excellent persistence. Drink it 2015 to 2025+. Rated 97+ / 100

Product reviewed: Glaetzer Amon-Ra Barossa Valley

Full, deep purple-crimson; filled to the brim with blackberry, satsuma plum, licorice, spice and dark chocolate, it carries its alcohol without faltering; its well-inserted, high quality, cork should allow it to reach its destiny somewhere after its 21st birthday, supported by its supple, ripe tannins and integrated oak. Rated 97 / 100

Product reviewed: Glaetzer Amon-Ra Barossa Valley

A rich, dense, full-bodied Barossa blockbuster that is balanced and elegant. There is lots of oak with liqueur cherry and spicy, meaty aromas. The palate is fleshy, concentrated and profound with ample smooth tannins. Rated 95/100
