Purple plum and black cherry fruit and fragrant cedar-wood character. Behind all this there is a sense of huge power and energy held in abeyance. In the mouth, it has the Lafite-like ethereal lightness noted last year, which turns into an almost unbelievably grippy concentration on the finish. With coaxing, it reveals amazing flavours of violet-tinged plummy fruit, black truffle and assorted spices. Slightly honeyed texture. Dramatic tension between the array of flavours, zingy acidity and palpable sense of minerality. Plenty of tannin, but so suave and silky as to render it almost unnoticeable. Wow. Amazing wine!
