A designated ‘biodiversity oasis’ by the World Wildlife Federation, the Forteto della Luja estate perches upon the hills near the small village of Loazzolo, just 20 miles west of Alba. Established in 1826 the estate hosts an ancient Piemontese house, stone cellar and steep vineyards, all nestled into the magnificently wooded hillside. Giancarlo Scaglione inherited the estate from his mother’s family and, not only resides as the owner and winemaker, but also teaches at the famous Alba Oenological School. These days, this tiny family-owned estate is managed by Giancarlo’s children Giovanni and Silvia.
