Castilla y Leon is a region that stretches from just north of Madrid to just south of Bilbao, and includes the very important sub region of Ribera del Duero. Here reds reign supreme. Especially Tempranillo, made in a much richer style than those emanating from Rioja. Elbo Organic Tempranillo is very much in this vein. It has a really ripe red fruit nose, not jammy and cloying but almost confected, with some more complex herbal and peppery notes. The structure is big as you would expect, but is kept fresh and lively thanks to some juicy acidity on palate. Ultimately this is not a heavy wine but definitely impactful.
