Located in the Argentine province of Salta, and more previously in the Cafayate wine region, at an altitude of between 1650 and 2500 meters above sea level, Bodega El Porvenir de Cafayate was founded about 20 years ago and is today led by Lucía Romero Marcuzzi with the help of winemaker Francisco "Paco" Puga.
The Tannat grapes are manually harvested from vines that have over 20 years of life. They're planted on rocky, quartz-filled soil which it’s able to store heat during the day and release it gradually allowing early ripening of the grapes. The fermentation process occurs in stainless steel tanks with selected yeasts. After some rest in stainless steel tanks and a year in oak barrels (half new, half old), the wine is ready for the market.
This wine is like a fruit and spice party in your mouth. Think plum, raspberry, thyme, mint, and a little earthy vibe. It's smooth, it has great fruit concentration and well-integrated tannins. The finish is persistent and recalls notes of mint and cedar. It pairs deliciously with a big t-bone steak served with some roasted Porcini mushrooms.
