Duca di Cardino is made by the Barbanera winery, founded in 1938 and still family run today. A recent overhaul of the cellar has further elevated the high quality of the wines. The name of this Chianti pays homage to a family ancestor, Orazio Barbanera, who defeated the Florentines in a skirmish in a field of artichokes, earning him the title Duca di Cardino (Duke of Artichokes). This stylish tribute to the Duke, made by Simona Barbanera, of the current generation, is pure Sangiovese - ripe cherry character with hints of spice and leather.
