Clemens always manages to coax magic out of the Marienburg hill and the last three years have been no exception. Here we offer the first dry and sweet releases of 2019, the longer lees-aged top crus from 2018 and two freshly released, two-year lease aged reserve crus. Take your pick, it’s a veritable feast.
"As promising and gorgeously savory as the 2019s are, the 2018s should not be underrated. 2018 is an exceptional vintage for Rita and Clemens Busch, and the range of great wines is wide. Born in a warm yet less dry year than elsewhere, the 2018s are richer than the 2019s and 2017s and certainly lower in acidity.
The 2018 GGs, as well as the 2017 Reserve wines are absolutely fabulous. In fact, I don't know many other producers who excel with all the Riesling disciplines from dry to noble sweet. This explains why so many wines are rated 95 or 96, no matter the style or level of sweetness or even the vintage." Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, August 2020
"The 2018 Marienburg Felsterrasse did not ferment to legally dry but still reached 13% alcohol. The bouquet is deep, intense and flinty yet refined and elegant, with ripe fruit aromas intermixed with delicate slate notes. Round and intense yet refined and elegant on the palate, this is a rich and powerful, almost oily-textured yet pure, vital and finessed Riesling in the dry style. The 2018 is dense, intense and long, very complex, well-balanced and vibrantly fresh for this abnormally warm and dry vintage. Slightly bitter on the aftertaste." 95 pts, Stephan Reinhardt, WA
