Minervois is a wine region to take note of. Making hearty, great value reds in the picturesque Languedoc it also makes a handful of rosés, too. With less finesse and more grunt that the Marguerite this is one of my favourite ‘Riviera rosés’. It is a fascinating concoction with red wine weight coupled with white wine freshness.

The talented Jean Panis has not just crafted one of the tastiest French rose wines you will taste this year, and at an amazingly low price, he has demonstrated that you can achieve ripe flavors in Minervois (in pink, anyway) at barely over 12% alcohol. (Warning: don’t open this if you are alone, because the bottle will be drained regardless!) A 60:40 blend of Syrah and Grenache, this Minervois Rosé brims with red raspberry, strawberries, and melon, all tinged with an invigorating hint of herbs, salt, and pepper. Silken in texture, this wine is so lusciously fruit juice-like you’ll swear it has a hint of residual sugar (but you’ll be wrong: it’s sub-threshold). Plan to enjoy this irresistible rosé over the next nine months.
