This is from a classic era for Islay whisky, just before the close of cult lost distillery Port Ellen, and this shows why that distillery was surplus to requirements back then – it's packed with classic chamois leather, citrus and smoky notes, all perfectly integrated thanks to its 40 years maturing in a pair of hogsheads.
