Another unusually intriguing release from Benriach finished in Dark Rum barrels. One thing I enjoy about the Benriach brand is the varying flavours within the range and the differing casks used to finish these whiskies. The Benriach 'Dunder' is distilled from peated malted barley, matured in American oak casks and then finished in Dark Rum barrels. This whisky has been named after the residue of cane-juice left in the still after distillation of rum, 'dunder' which traditionally is used as a yeast source in the fermentation process of Jamaican rum where it gives the rum its unique aroma and flavour.
