Drinking a glass of Muscat is like a breath of early summer freshness. Oz Clarke describes it as a "very fresh, fragrant, blossomy beauty that fills the glass with the heady scents of summer ripeness". Escudo de Oro certainly lives up to this variety's reputation for being uplifting refreshment. Indeed, it is so brilliantly crisp that it's hard to believe it's from baking hot central Spain. However, as our Buyer for Spain Beth explains, "At an altitude of 830 metres, hot days turn into cool, fresh nights, prolonging the ripening period of the grapes. This in turn makes for more pronounced aromas and bright, crisp fruit flavours." At its best well chilled as a glass on its own or with spicy Thai dishes of stir-fry noodles or fish cakes..
