About Grand Cru Chablis Wine

The Chablis Grand Cru appellation is reserved for the most prestigious terroirs covering some 100 hectares producing only 54 hectolitres per hectare, with nearly all planted in the commune of Chablis. This is only 1% of Chablis' total production. They are situated on the right banks of the river Serein, at a South facing angle with the most favourable soils, known as Kimmeridgian, which is enriched by tiny fossil oysters. This all results in rich, ripe wines with great weight and concentration. This single Grand Cru consists of only seven localities called climats. These are – Les Blanchots – Bougros – Les Clos – Grenouilles – Les Preuses – Valmur and Vaudesir. These constitute the finest that Chablis has to offer with exceptional ageing potential.
