Macon & Macon Villages Wines

The Macon appellation covers white, rose and red wine, but Macon-Villages can only apply to white wines. It is worth investing that tiny bit more to buy a Macon-Villages, rather than a straight Macon, since the quality level and yield control increases considerably, and the wines are generally reliable. Around 42 communes within Macon have been identified as being of general higher quality and are allowed to add their village name to the appellation; these include Macon Lugny, Macon-Vire, Macon Prisse etc.

Yet again, it’s important to check the producer or negociant from whom you are buying, since the quality can vary. Generally the wines are fresh, creamy, with a broad, baked apple and pear character.
