Montagny Wines

This is the one commune in the Cote Chalonnaise, where only Chardonnay can be grown. The most southern of the Cote Chalonnaise villages, it is a few miles south of Givry, and is one of the most dynamic regions, in terms of focus from the producers to improve and market their wines.

About Montagny Wines

Like the majority of white Burgundy producers, many of the wines are fermented, or partly fermented in barrel, or barrel aged. The wines have a natural warmth, and ripeness, due to the warmer, sunnier, southern location, but also have a balancing high acidity and minerality, due to the high proportion of limestone in the soil. There are several Premier Cru vineyards in this area.

The most important producer in Montagny is the cooperative Caves de Buxy, who have worked tirelessly, for many years to drive forward the quality and quality reputation of their wine, and have helped improve and transform the style and reputation of wines from this region.
