Pommard Wines

One of the most famous red wine districts in the Cotes de Beaune and producing only red wines, with many Premier Cru, albeit no Grand Cru vineyards. It’s one of the largest areas, with over 1600 acres under vine. Pommard is known for its full- bodied, powerful reds, which can be hard and unapproachable in youth, and need a few years to soften and open up into complex richness and intensity. They have an intense, gamey richness and depth.

One of the most fascinating aspects of the entire Burgundy journey, is how wines come differ so completely in style, within a very tiny area. The vineyards of Pommard, producing, these big, bold, masculine wines, lie only just over 1km apart from those of neighbouring Volnay, which is renowned for producing the most fragrant, smooth and delicate wines of the area!
