Givry is south of Mercurey in the Cote Chalonnaise. It produces mainly reds from Pinot Noir and a little white from Chardonnay, as is typical of Burgundy. It has 38 Premier Crus, which make about 40% of production. As a result, Givry is being recognised more and more for great quality in the face of the more expensive nearby appellations in Burgundy. The reds are generally quite fresh with wild berry flavours but need a bit of time in bottle to soften. Better examples develop more savoury characteristics such as meat or liquorice. The whites are citrusy and honeyed and can develop some brilliant toasty fruit notes after a few years.
