Volnay Wines

This is an appellation exclusively for red wines, and known for producing the softest, most ‘feminine’ reds of the Cote de Beaune. It could be compared to the Chambolle-Musigny status, as the most feminine of the Cote de Nuits wines. There are a high number of Premier Cru vineyards, although no Grand Crus, and the wines are some of the most immediately appealing and attractive, with an ethereal, perfumed quality, which also age well.

The best wines come from vineyards on the limestone and clay soils of the middle slopes of the Cote d’Or escarpment, facing south – east.
