Corton Wines

The hill of Corton is in the Cote de Beaune, surrounded by the villages of Aloxe-Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses and Ladoix-Serrigny. It is is the largest grand cru area in Burgundy, and comes from vineyards on the southern slopes of the hill.

Corton Grand Cru is the only red Grand Cru of the Cote de Beaune, and it does also produce Chardonnay wines. Aloxe-Corton produces predominantly red wines, which are full, structured and often need time to soften and develop. The most famous vineyard however is Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru, which produces exceptional, and very expensive white wines that rank among the best in the world. History tells us that the Charlemagne name comes from the fact that it was the emperor Charlemagne who first brought the Chardonnay grape to the Montagne de Corton. The wines are deep, fragrant, rich and intense, with a honeyed, ripe stone fruit character, longevity, and an enchantingly fresh, flinty, minerality. They are also some of the longest lasting whites of the Cote de Beaune.
