What is a Hazy IPA?
Hazy IPAs, also known as New England IPAs (NEIPAs), are cloudy, unfiltered India Pale Ales, characterised by a soft mouthfeel and intensely fruity hops. They are considered to be a modern twist on an American IPA.
Hazy IPAs are brewed with a higher proportion of oats and wheat which means more protein that creates the natural haze. The beer then is left unfiltered which preserves the haze as well as the pillowy texture and hop character, resulting in a juicy beer. Hops can also be added towards the end of fermentation to enhance the cloudy effect even further, as well as adding more flavour.
As to where to place them in the beer spectrum, they are much less bitter than a classic IPA thanks to the tropical hops. Super sessionable and immensely flavoursome.
