What is a Saison ale?
Saisons are a type of pale Farmhouse ale from Belgian that is highly carbonated, very dry and often bottle conditioned giving it a spicy, yeasty character. They used to be seasonal winter beers, but since popularity for them has grown and craft beer has taken off, you can now get them all year round - fortunately!
The style is quite open to interpretation, meaning that, besides the characteristic dryness, yeastiness and high carbonation you can find a mixture of flavours among them. Brewers might aim for something more hoppy, or they may lean into the more sour style of Farmhouse ales.
