Beaune Wines

Located in the Burgundy Wine region, the capital of the region, the town of Beaune is arguably the most famous, and the most interesting in the region, and is synonymous with Burgundy. The world famous Hospices de Beaune auction is held in the town each November in the exalted surroundings of the ornate Hotel Dieu, a 15th century monastery, and now the immediately recognisable signpost of Beaune, with its ornate roof and complex architecture.

About Beaune Wines

The area is the largest appellation in the Cote d’Or, covering over 1600 acres, and maybe surprisingly in the area, which breeds the leading white wines of the world, production used to be 95% red. However with the worldwide demand for white Burgundy, the area has increased its production of white wines, which now account for almost 20% of the appellation, with the Premier Cru whites offering superb quality, and richness of character, with their creamy, hazelnut and toast aromas, ripe fruit flavours and fleshy ripeness.

The reds are less intense than those of the Cotes de Nuits, less masculine than neighbouring Pommard, but less fragrant and delicate than the Volnay to the south – in essence, well balanced, elegant, silky red fruit wines, which have a youthful appeal.

Wine52 Case Review: Vin de France
Wine52s latest case embarks on a wine journey aiming to show you the world of wine away from boundaries and stodgy tradition. This case showcases Vin de France, an arguably simple wine category without geographical indication or clear provenance. This would once have been something to avoid in the wine world, and indeed many drinkers still associate Vin de France with cheap and cheerful. But in recent years VdF has undergone a remarkable transformation. As experimentation trends in the wine…

Champagne Tour: Bollinger and Hautvillers - Part 5
Part 5 returns after the holiday rush, making now an ideal time to revisit my Champagne trip from last May. If you’re planning a summer getaway, I recommend this trip — check out my earlier blogs to get an idea of various other houses I visited as well as some general tips on Reims and Epernay. Continuing the tour, this was to be our very first day where we only visited one Champagne house (terrible I know), before having a bit more free time to explore the region around Epernay. However, it was…
