Colchagua Wine

Lying to the south of Cachapoal Valley, and encompassing the southern section of the Rapel Valley, Colchagua is without doubt, one of the top quality red wine producing areas in Chile, delivering world class Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carmenere and Syrah.

The warm, fertile valley floor does produce large volumes of inexpensive reds, but the cooler outskirts of the area are what make it stand out. Apalta is a south-facing amphitheatre within the region, that allows it to capture cool westerly breezes with south facing slopes and poor soil quality, all resulting in quality grape growing conditions. Here, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Carmenere are very good as singular varieties or in blends. The western end of the valley is also worthy of note, experiencing cooling ocean breezes making it suitable for some elegant white wines as well.
