Coquimbo Wine

Coquimbo borders the Atacama Desert, the world's driest, and winegrowing relies on cooling influences from the Pacific and surrounding mountains. Climate change is threatening its future as a viable region for grape growing as water shortages have become even more accute.

Traditionally, the regions vineyards were mostly planted with Pais to produce Pisco. However, high-quality wines have been recognised coming from three DOs: Elqui Valley, Limari Valley and Choapa Valley.
