Maule Wine

Lying just south of Curico, this is Chile’s largest wine area, and one of the workhorses of the country’s wine industry, producing large quantities of reliable, sound quality wine. It runs about 100km long, has more rainfall than its northern neighbours, and enjoys a cooler climate, with at times very cold winter temperatures.

It is a very traditional area, and one of the ones with the longest history; there are many old vines, including some interesting old vines Carignan. The main red grapes are once again Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere and Merlot, whilst the majority of the white wine production is Sauvignon Blanc, with some Chardonnay.

Wine52 Curico Valley
The latest case from Wine52 was a good one, showcasing the Curico Valley region of Chile. It did very well with diversity, featuring the signature Chilean Carménère variety, a surprise Riesling and an inky Cabernet Sauvignon. The Curico Valley is a diverse region with a large variety of soils and climates. The central part of the valley is warm and fertile allowing it to comfortably grow a wide range of grape varieties with relative ease. As a result, the wines have gained a reputation for being…
