Awards

IWSC Silver Outstanding 2016

Award: IWSC 2016 - Silver Outstanding

Tasting notes:
"Pale lemon hue, tiny bubbles and narrow cordon. Bouquet is packed with yellow apples accented by fresh bread and nuance of honey. Palate has lovely purity, bracing acidity, velvet texture. Beautiful balance and lingering slightly spicy finish. Poised wine."

IWSC Gold 2017

Award: IWSC 2017 - Gold

Tasting notes:
"Pale gold colour with small continuous bubbles and tight cordon. The nose shows green apple and melon fruit, lemon-lime and brioche accents. On the palate the wine is mid-weight, well-defined with zesty acidity and crackling-textured mousse, integrated dosage. Long toasty finish. Drinking well now, but with capacity to age in bottle."

Award: Independent Wines Direct Tasting - Angela Mount 2014 - Angela Mount's Top 10 Tesco Wines 2013

Tasting notes:
I scored this as my best buy last year in my champagne review for the Daily Mail. I chaired the judging panel for the Quality Food and Drink awards, where we gave this the top gong over other supermarket champagnes – so this one really does speak for itself! Silky smooth, with a fine thread of bubbles, it just oozes star quality, with its glorious , toasty flavours, ripe, warm, peachy aromas, and gentle, creamy finish. A supremely well balanced champagne, which knocks the socks off many of the big brands, with its style, verve and elegance. Equally good as a celebration drink, or for the ultimate in indulgence treats – champagne and fish and chips – believe me, it does work!

Award: Independent Wines Direct Tasting - Angela Mount 2014 - Angela Mount's Top 10 Prosecco & Champagne For Christmas 2013

Tasting notes:
This gets my vote for the best champagne under £20; others obviously think so too, as it’s won numerous awards in recent wine competitions. It has an enchanting, inviting richness, an opulence and elegance which are unexpected at the price. Full of rich, toasty, buttered hazelnuts and baked apple flavours, it’s delicate thread of bubbles releases aromas of baked cream and ripe peaches. Silky smooth and elegant, it’s the perfect celebration drink, or ideal with mini fish and chips, smoked salmon and even little spicy canapés.

Award: Independent Wines Direct Tasting - Angela Mount 2014 - Angela Mount's Best Wines For Valentine’s Day 2014

Tasting notes:
It doesn’t have to be pink wine all the way on Valentine’s Day. One of the best Champagnes on the high street is Tesco Finest Premier Cru Champagne NV, which wins award after award, and proves that you don’t have to fork out on top brands to great quality fizz. The Tesco team have come up with a true gem here – with its pale golden colour, and delicate stream of bubbles, it’s a ripe, smooth style of champagne, with no harsh edges, full of delicious toasty, buttery, warm peach and cream flavours, and lovely, refreshing finish. It will be the perfect glass of bubbles to start off a romantic evening, but has enough weight and flavour to cope with food as well – seafood, calamari, tempura prawns – perfect.

Award: Independent Wines Direct Tasting - Angela Mount 2014 - Angela Mount's Top Wines From Tesco 2014

Tasting notes:
This stunning and multi-award winning Champagne needs no introduction. It consistently tops the charts in most blind tastings and most recently picked up the gongs for Best Champagne in the Quality Drink Awards, and was also one of the most highly recommended wines in the latest Decanter own brand Champagne panel tasting. It’s everything you could want from a top quality non-vintage Champagne, with its fine mousse, wafting scents of baked apple and brioche, smooth, creamy, with ripe flavours, yet a refreshing citrus edge – beautifully elegant. It’s simply a top drop.

This champagne is excellent value when on offer (which is frequently) with a smooth taste, a little fruit & not too much dryness. Well rated by many professional tasters

A splendid champagne with a fullness of body that makes it comparable to Veuve Cliquot. In some ways, better value than Tesco's vintage champagne - nice though that is.

Excellent crisp yet smooth taste. Have supplied it regularly at drinks parties & it compares favourably with more expensive brands

Rating:   4/5

Pale in colour with rich and fizzy sparkle that is still pleasing to the eye. The taste and smell are subdued, if hollow. Drinking it is like biting to cotton candy. The reward for the lack of complexity is clear head in the morning which makes it the prefect mid-week bottle. Overall a pleasant surprise for a £15 price tag (2 for £30 - 26 Jun 2013).
