Navarra Wines

Navarra extends for nearly 100 kilometres meaning there are many climatic influences and thus a range of wine styles. To help narrow it down, there are five sub-regions: In the north are the hilly sub-regions of Baja Montaña, Valdizarbe and Tierra Estella. These are the cooler areas. Then, Ribera Alta is in the middle and Ribera Baja in the south of the region which become progressively warmer.

Navarra grows a wide range of grape varieties including Garnacha, Tempranillo, Viura and international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay. Tempranillo is often made on its own whilst Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are usually part of a blend with Tempranillo and sometimes Garnacha. Wines range from fruity & light all the way to the fuller, concentrated wines. Some medium to deep coloured dry rosé is also produced from Garnacha, sometimes as a blend. Wine styles are really quite similar to Rioja or Ribera del Duero, however, without having the same prestige as these regions, value for money can be found for those in the know.
