The Perfect Wines to try this Valentine’s Day

Saint Valentine’s Day falls on a Sunday this year, so what better day to have a special lunch and to choose a special bottle or two to share with the one you love?

My plan will be to start the run up to lunch with a special aperitif.

Fizz makes a great start and now the Italian wine regulations allow the top Prosecco producers to make the beautifully pretty Prosecco Rosé. If you haven't tried this delightful pink drink yet, then you simply must. It would even make a very pretty gift for your loved one.

Grab this stunning bottle on Amazon for just £11.99. If you're a Prime customer you'll get free delivery and could be enjoyng it as soon as tomorrow!

Why not make up a Kir Royale for some extra indulgence? Simply add a splash of say 10ml of cassis to the bottom of the glass then top up with Prosecco or Cremant?

We recommend this fantastic value bottle of Cremant from Majestic, usually £17.99, now just £9.99 when you mix six!

Grab it now before it all runs out…

Shakespearean Romantics can get the light, fresh & fruity Romeo and Juliet Prosecco from Majestic Wine for £8.99!

Try mixing either with this Cassis from Master of Malt which is bursting at the seams with juicy, blackcurrant flavours. This is thanks to the blackurrants being harvested in July when they are at their best!

If you don’t have Cassis, other sweet fruit liqueurs work well instead including orange, apricot, strawberry etc. If you don’t want it too alcoholic, I have used Ribena (yes really!), it works well instead of cassis.

I am not sure how romantic it is, but there’s a golly good drink using Sloe Gin topped up with fizz. Known in the shooting field where it gets served on a cold winters day as a Sloegasm!

For lunch on Saint Valentines Day in France the most popular wine to serve is a lovely light fruity Cru Beaujolais called appropriately Saint Amour. It is so popular in France that it is difficult to find in the UK although we’re pleased to say that we've sourced it for you from Naked Wines!

Or how about Fleurie served with a big bunch of aromatic flowers like hyacinths or freesias?

The wine, as it’s name suggests has a beautiful flowery nose with lovely violets and soft berry fruit. The ideal wine for a roast chicken. Domaine Pardon Fleurie in Majestic Wine for £11.99 is excellent.

Wine for cheese and dessert, you simply have to have the delicious luscious Moscato from Torres called Floralis, and in the most beautifully gold painted bottles covered with flowers.

Find it in Morrisons for just £8.50 a bottle!

I haven’t met anyone yet who doesn’t love this clean, honeyed, luscious wine, which is perfect with blue cheese and sweet enough for most desserts, but particularly great with apple pie and custard!
