What is Blended Grain Whisky?

Blended Grain whiskies are the result of blending 2 or more Single Grain whiskies from different distilleries. These are one of the more rarely seen spirits of the whisky world but well worth trying if you are looking for a whisky with a soft, subtle character. Japanese whisky is leading the way in this field with the Scottish, American and Irish distillers currently lagging behind.

What's the difference between Blended Grain Whisky, Blended Whisky and Blended Malt Whisky?

Whilst a Blended Grain Whisky is a blend of multiple Single Grain whiskies from different distilleries, a Blended Whisky is a blend of both malt and grain whiskies from different distilleries and a Blended Malt Whisky is a blend of only malt whiskies from different distilleries.

A Single Grain Whisky differs in that it is simply from one distillery. It can still be a blend of different grains from different barrels or batches, but most importantly it must come from just a single distillery.
