What is Blended Malt Whisky?

Blended malts, formerly known as a "pure malt" or a "vatted malt", are a blend of single malt whiskies (not grain) from different distilleries. A Single Malt Whisky differs in that it is from one distillery only. Blended Whisky differs in that it is a blend of both grain and malt whiskies.

Outside the traditional Scotch style, which must be made from malted barley, you can find other malted grains such as rye, corn or maize in the blend. Again though, they must be from different distilleries to be called blended, otherwise it would be a Single Malt.

Alcohol is taxed according to its ABV on drinks over 1.2% ABV. The initial increase on alcohol…
