What is Single Pot Still Whiskey?

Single Pot Still Whiskey, otherwise known as Pure Pot Still, is only made in Ireland. Instead of using 100% malted barley, this style is a mixture of malted and unmalted which gives the finished whiskeys a distinct spice and thicker texture. There are also Pot Still Whiskeys, which are blends of Pot Still Whiskeys made by more than one distillery.

In the 19th century this was the most popular style in the world, it was only the rise of cheaper Blended Whiskies that saw it decline. By the 1980s, only Green Spot and Redbreast were available on the market in this style! Luckily, this is now beginning to change.

Redbreast are probably still best known for championing this style and bringing it to attention on the market. But now brands like Jameson are helping spread the style even further.
