What are Whisky Liqueurs?

Whisky Liqueurs are quite simply the combination of a whisky base with a sugary syrup. Often fruit, spice and other flavours are added as well. Whilst very much at the forefront of flavour innovation these days, Whisky Liqueurs actually date back a number of centuries: The Scottish locals used to drink Brose, a precursor to porridge, which was a blend of whisky, honey and oatmeal.

There are a number of popular brands on the market such as Drambuie, Shanky's Whip and Fireball which are enjoyed neat, on the rocks and as cocktail components. However, there are plenty of exciting new brands coming out that are looking to raise the bar and premiumise the category.
