What is Tsipouro?

Tsipouro is basically the Greek version of Grappa, being a type of pomace brandy. This means that it is made from the residue of leftover grape bits after pressing in winemaking, which is then distilled.

It is unaged, distilled to about 40-45% abv, and produced with the pure pomace flavours or with the addition of aniseed, giving it some similarity to the other famous Greek spirit Ouzo.

Tsipouro can be served both hot and cold and usually accompanies a meze platter! The Spanish version is known as Orujo.
