About Pauillac Wines

Pauillac is a name that commands respect across the wine world, and is arguably, the most acclaimed, and prestigious area within Bordeaux, home to no less than 3 of the 5 first growth (premier cru classe wines) – the world famous names of Chateau Lafite, Chateau Latour and Chateau Mouton-Rothschild, as designated in the famous 1855 classification of Bordeaux, with Mouton-Rothschild being added in 1973.

Cabernet Sauvignon reigns supreme here, at home on the gravelly soils, and dominates the Bordeaux blend – it is here that the rich, cedar and intense blackcurrant characteristics of this grape variety are seen at their best; whilst each chateau will provide a unique and bespoke style, there is a common style, in terms of richness, intensity, and complexity, balanced by restraint and elegance.

As well as the acclaimed First Growths, Pauillac is home to a number of famous classed growths, including Chateau Pichon Longueville, Chateau Lynch Bages, and Chateau Pontet Canet.

What is Chateau Minuty, Cotes de Provence?
Everyone knows the delicate, salmon-pink profile of Minuty’s M Rose, their bestselling wine, perfected over nearly a century of expertise and with an iconic bottle. But what else does this famous Provence winery have to offer? Château Minuty’s story really took off after the Second World War after a big replanting programme. By 1955 it was recognized as one of 23 top properties in Provence. In the 60s, Minuty saw a number of local varieties planted such as Tibouren and a focus on quality rather…

Famous and upcoming wines of the Loire
By Master of Wine, Christopher Burr 24/07/2023 One of the oldest and most vineyard planted parts of France is the Loire valley. Historically important with some of the greatest Chateau and home of the Aristocrats, and its proximity to Paris always guarantees a high demand for good wine. Being one of the most northern and cooler parts of France, the reds are light and fresh, some lovely Pinot Noirs and Cabernet Francs, perfect for summer days, slightly chilled. My favourite Sauvignon Blanc comes…

Now is the time to drink Beaujolais
By Master of Wine, Christopher Burr 17/07/2023 I have always been a fan of good Beaujolais. My first introduction was the other side of France, in Bordeaux funnily enough, on the lawn of Chateau Lascombes in Margaux for a wedding reception in 1970. The bride was related to the now "king" of Beaujolais, Georges Dubouef, and he had provided a special selection of the single village Beaujolais, Julienas, in magnums. I can even remember the label which read, in the first person "Je m'appelle…
