Patagonia Wines

Situated 700km south of Mendoza is Argentina's upcoming wine region, Patagonia. It's conditions are very different to the northerly regions: it lacks the altitude and intense sunlight of San Juan, La Rioja and Salta, and is much cooler than the warm valley in Mendoza. This results in very different wine styles.

It has recently been gaining a reputation for cool climate wines from Pinot Noir, Cab Franc, Merlot, Chardonnay, Semillon and Riesling. Malbec, in typical Argentine fashion, is the most planted grape and makes a more floral style from Patagonia.

The two main areas for wine production in Patagonia are the provinces of Rio Negro and Neuquen.
