Condrieu and Chateau Grillet Wines
Condrieu is a very small area situated in the Northern Rhone Valley. It produces high quality, premium priced white wines from 100% Viognier. The vines are grown on steep, rocky slopes which often have to be terraced to allow for labour and help combat constant erosion and wind. It surrounds the tiny 4 hectare single-estate Chateau-Grillet which gave Viognier its international reputation.
Most Condrieu is aged on lees which yields opulent, perfumed wines, full of intense, creamy apricot flavours. This appellation is the model for all Viognier to aspire to.
