What is Wheat Whiskey?

It's pretty simple. What makes a wheat whisky is the primary grain needs to be wheat. In the US, the main producer of wheat whiskeys, it must be at least 51% to qualify. Similarly to other American Whiskeys, it can be labelled as a straight wheat if it is aged for at least two years in new, charred oak.

This style of whiskey is not particularly well known, largely due to a lack of presence on the main market and that there are not many big brands in this space. That said, some Bourbons are "wheated", where wheat instead of rye is used as the secondary grain in the mash bill. Makers Mark and Rebel Yell are two popular brands that do this.

Still, for those in the know about wheat whiskey, they'll be fans of the smooth, soft profile that they afford, even more so than the lightness of a Corn Whiskey.
