What is Navy Strength Gin?
It's a high proof Gin known for purity, strength (of course) and having a rich, bold profile. The minimum ABV allowed is 57%, a level that helps it shine through cocktails and provide a
fuller, creamier mouthfeel.
By the name you should be able to tell that it has a Naval background, where the British Navy crews used gin as a safe drinking option instead of potentially hazardous, disease-ridden water. It was also used to wash down quinine (which tastes terrible) that helped prevent scurvy. In order to test it was the appropriate strength, officers would pour the gin onto gunpowder where it would ignite if it was at the right level!
